Delivery & Returns


Mainland UK & Northern Ireland delivery (excluding Channel Islands)

Our delivery and packing service for all orders up to £100 is based on weight. The delivery charge will include insurance should your goods be lost or damaged en route. For all mainland UK orders over £100, delivery is FREE of CHARGE. We aim to prepare your order within 2 working days of receipt and deliver your goods within the following 5 working days. Please note on some occasions, products may be out of stock, in which case your order will either be part-shipped, including advice on when the rest of the order will be dispatched, or we will inform you that your order is being held until a date when the stock is due to arrive. 

If there is a particular urgency to your order please advise us about your deadline by phone or email and we will let you know whether we can fulfill your requirement.

Delivery for outside of the U.K

We have inserted some guide prices which will usually be accurate for light items. For larger, heavier items please contact us by email and we will advise you on cost and procedure. We reserve the right to request additional delivery payments on top of the guide prices if necessary. Large heavy items to outside the U.K may take up to 28 days to arrive.

Islands, Scottish Highlands

Deliveries can sometimes cost more. In the event that we believe an order to be uneconomic, we will contact you prior to dispatch if it is necessary to levy a surcharge. Please contact us should you have any queries.

Express Delivery (Mainland UK only, excluding Highlands)

Please phone us if you require express delivery and we can advise on whether this is possible for your order.


Customs & Import Fees

International orders placed outside of the UK will now be subject to customs or import fees. Any customs or import fees are to be paid by the recipient once the parcel reaches its destination. Customs policies and import duties vary widely from country to country and unfortunately we do not have control over them. You can contact your local customs office for more information.

If you refuse a shipment from The Painted Bird, you are responsible for the original shipping charges, import fees that are included on the package, and the cost of returning the package to us. This amount will be deducted from your merchandise refund.


Returns & Exchanges

We really want you to be delighted with the quality of our goods, but if anything does not meet with your satisfaction, please return the items within 14 days for an exchange or full refund of the purchase prices. All returns/exchanges must be in new and unused condition with all original tags still on. The Painted Bird is not responsible for return shipping costs nor for handling/import charges when products are returned from outside of the UK. In case of a lost parcel when returning a product, The Painted Bird cannot be held responsible for the loss.

If you decide to return a non-faulty item to us, you will be responsible for safe return of the item and the costs involved.

Once you have placed an order we will send you confirmation of your order by e-mail.


Stock availability

We do endeavour to hold as much stock as possible. However it is occasionally the case that only a limited amount of stock is available due to the specialist nature of either the goods or the suppliers. In some cases an item may prove to be extremely popular and we may have sold out of this item. If stock is not available for any reason then we will keep you informed.



All our prices include VAT, charged at current rates. All prices are displayed in UK pounds sterling.


Trade descriptions

We have made every effort to ensure photography, descriptions and details are accurate. However, slight differences in colours and textures may occur and manufacturers’ product specifications may change slightly after going to press. Please note all measurements are approximate.



All of your transactions with The Painted Bird online are secure. The secure server encrypts all of your personal information (including name, address, credit card number) so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the Internet. When you enter this information it is captured on a page that uses the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol by default.
